Safety: Most visitors enjoy a fairly high level of personal safety however travellers should take sensible precautions against petty theft. Terrorism is no more a threat than in other Western countries.
Communications: The international access code for Ireland is +353 (don't dial the first zero of the area code). The outgoing code is 00, or 048 for Northern Ireland, followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 0044 for the United Kingdom). The local mobile phone operators use GSM networks and have roaming agreements with most international operators. Internet cafes are available in the main tourist areas.
Climate : Ireland has a temperate climate which is influenced by the North Atlantic Drift and characterized by mild, moist and changeable conditions. Rainfall is heaviest in the west where it can exceed 3,000 mm (120 inches) per annum while 60% of the country has an average annual precipitation between 762 mm and 1,270 mm (30 and 50 inches). Extremes in temperatures are uncommon, although the weather can be changeable as a result of temperate depressions. Average temperature ranges are from 4 to 7 degrees Celsius (39 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit) in January or February to 14 to 16 degrees Celsius (57 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit) in July or August.
