Surfing in Argentina

« on: July 26 2004 00:07:00 »

High I wasn't sure if anyone was going to read this but I thought I might try. Well basically a lot of my family lives in Argentina and I live here in southern california and when I go visit I'd like to know the best times to go surfing. What its like if there is even any surf there, and what the conditions are like. I'd say I'm an intermediate surfer. I'm right by the beach and have been surfing for a good 6 years. Who knows maybe I could find perfect uncrowded surf or crappy ankleslappers. So if any1 can help me out, all help is apreciated (spelled wrong).   -Blake

Im sorry guys .. you are going to be disapointed by the east coast. There are guys who windsurf and surf there ... but ... well .... its not so far over to chili where the swell is far better!

Anyway ... places like Mar del plata, bahia blanca, south of buenas aires, are good places to head for ... good fun too, holiday destinations for the argentinians. Get down to punta valdes aswell .. surfing there could be dodgy though (its the place where killer wales come out onto the beach to catch seals!) lots of aquatic wild life.
Sorry I dont have more .... my surfing friends there have gone to ground!

Anyone know anything about the surfing conditions at Valeria Del Mar, which is a 3 hr drive south of Buenos Aires?  Or about the conditions anywhere around there?  Thanks!!!

will be in B.A in Sept this year and have 3 days spare.
Looking best place to hire a board/ wetsuit and best place to visit. Been surfing for 40 years so can ride anything although at my age not bigger than 8 / 10 ft
Also cheap / free accomadation will be cool.
I'm from Cape Town in South Africa and can return any hospitality offered.
