which way to the beach?

« on: January 01 2006 10:01:00 »

hey guys,
i´ll make it short. i am a central european surfing addicted ( unfortunallly we dont have an ocean)student and i want to study in australia or nz for a year. but i dont know where, yet. please help me finding the right city.
i am looking for a place like this:
10 minutes to a uncrowded, good surfspot
10 minutes to a good kiting spot
10 minutes to the nihgtlife
10 minutes to uni
mellow, cool, international people all around
which place in australia/nz does fit these expectations the most?
i´ll fly down in feb to have a look at the places you are hopefully going to propose. so just throw names at me, describe a bit or give me hints. anything will help!
THANK YOU
patrick

Patrick hate to be rude but your dreaming make it an hour then perhaps you maybe in luck there will only be 50 people in the water instead of a hundred.

Patrick, im sure there are some good spots on the east coast, but consider coming to Perth West Oz. In perth the surf isn't all that special but it does get good and there's nearly always a wave so i guess it just depends on your surfing level whether it meets what you want. And believe it or not you can still get waves in perth relatively uncrowded especially during the weekdays.  Perth isn't far from the south west which has waves as good as anywhere else in Oz. Some good uni's that aren't far from the coast (10 min drive or so). nightlife's okay too - definently more laid back than most spots on the east coast if that what your after

Newcastle, NSW. Check it out.

The Uni is about 15-20 minutes out of town but there is a good public transport system, and the campus has a nice bushland setting with great sporting facilities.

Nice beaches. Friendly people. Big party town. I think you'll find what you're looking for.

Hi bra. Far out I know just the spot for ya. Theres a secret place not many people know about. Its called the Gold Coast. You can stay in Southport go to Bond Uni, party in surfers and surf uncrowded breaks that are always perfect in summer. Come down we need more visitors here, the roads, uni's and breaks are being under utilised.... good luck
