Does anyone really know?

« on: February 24 2006 13:02:00 »

I know this is a common topic, but i plan on going abroad and would like some info as to what school to pick. Firstly, is there that much of a difference in wave quality in winter/summer. secondly i love surfing and would like fairly easy access to some beaches, warm weather and water, and a fun nightlife.  so, what do you all think would be the best bet. im thinking about univ of newcastle, univ queensland, wollongong, and may griffith or bond.. thanks a ton

I'm a Newcastle Uni chick, and while there's some great nightlife, hot chicks and the weather's great - the surf's not fantastic. It used to be, but the past few years have been pretty crap. There's a few spots that are an hour's drive away, but even they aren't that great, and there's always a zillion boogie boarders. That seems to be the case everywhere now though.

Still, Newcastle's a top place - and our Uni is a lot of fun... if you get in the right circles ;)

I hate how some surfers make Bodyboarders out to be lower
life forms then surfers.  I have a whole group of friends, that just happen to be surfers.  I am the only sponger in the group, and they never give me a hard time.  I don't snake their waves,  and they don't snake mine.   Just because we may not stand on our boards, it doesn't give a surfer superiority in the water.  Don't look down at us.  It's not every bodyboarders fault youve been snaked one too many times, by a imature sponger that gets in your way.

I wasn't looking down on you or implying that you are a lower life form. I was merely pointing out the fact that lid riders are taking over the water in alarming numbers.

Perhaps you could start a new thread with your concerns - I don't think the guy who started this one gives a damn about that old debate. I'm pretty sure he just wants to know about Australian universities.

Run along now....

Wait !! hold on !   This guy was just merely making a valid point, that Surfers tend to think of, " lid riders " as more of a annoyance,  Then Common water Enthusiests.  And you yourself are admitting to your believe that Body Boarders seem to be taking over the water.  Ya'll need to grow up and take a chill pill.  Skiers don't critisize snowboarders, for taking over the mountains,  Just like golfers don't critisize newbies to the sport, Because they want to play.  Don't  chastise a relatively new sport, because there may be more crowds.  The earth is covered 75 % water  Theres plenty of room for everyone.  Plenty of beaches with breaks  for surfers, and Lid Riders, Kite surfers, windsurfers, ext.  GROW UP

I wasn't agreeing with what Kazzac said. I only said I like his/her style. I normally ride a shortboard but I had the  time of my life teaching my nephews how to boogy board. I think I was having more fun than them. I'm a really easy going bloke, but I thought the "run along" comment was funny!

yeh mate i live in cronulla, i'd be hitting up woolongong uni for sure, plenty of good waves and girls and good uni, just respect the locals and if u bump into and sleazy lid riders who think they are of equal quality of the real men, line them up do a chop hop and make sure your fins hit them in the teeth or head region... you lay down kooks can hang in the water just pipe down and stick to yourselves

I personally don't give a rat's arse if you choose to gift wrap yourself as dinner and present yourself to the sharks.

But before you call me discriminatory - remember - I'M A GIRL!! I get the sh*t ripped out of me every time I get in the water! I've surfed Nias and Talos and Asu and Cloud 9... but I'm a chick and therefore I'll never be equal in the eyes of the boys. But I don't bitch and whinge and say "stop picking on me!"

* Chick's can't surf like guys.
* You need bigger balls to surf than to lie on your tummy-tum.

These are the facts so get down off your high horses and remember that IT'S MEANT TO BE FUN!!

Learn to laugh at yourself you miserable f*cks!!!!

wollongong fo sho. griffith and bond are $$ and full of rich kids (no offense if u go...just an observation). wolly is only 80km out of sydney, so if you need a hit of real nite life, its an hour away. also, wolly's got a sweet night life of its down, tonnes of waves and beaches, and the uni is hott too. perth is too far away and the gold coast is full of tourists and sydney life gets too tense, unless ur out in manly beach. but no uni there. so wolly it is.
