im from sunshine coast
i have been to the barrier reef a few times for snorkling. when i take off in the plane to fly home i see some epic reef breaks almost as heavy as chopes. but are they surfable?
has any 1 surfed them?
need to no!!!

Yes there are breaks and yes they have been surfed.....
Pretty heavy and insane rides if you can handle the danger.... You are a very long way from help if needed if you go over the falls..... There are a few boats that do charter for surfing up there but you aren't assured of waves. Pick your season and talk to the right guys up there....
Regulations control everything up there and you are only allowed certain fins on boards etc (short ones) so the reef isn't damaged. To be allowed to charter for surfers costs the boat owners alot so if they have made that committment you are assured of some professional guys who know their stuff.
