RE: how to get up?« Reply #1 on: May 12 2007 11:05:00 »
Take the time to watch the experienced surfers and note where they position themselves and where they paddle to just before takeoff on a wave. Generally u want to be just on or in front of the shoulder of the wave (the bit where its breaking) Also start off on a bigger board, maybe 7ft if u are 6ft tall. The time to stand up is when u feel yourself sliding down the wave and try to angle left or rite, this can take a bit of time to get the hang of and really is only mastered thru practice. Surf more reef breaks than beach breaks at the beginning and Good Luck - tis the best sport in the World!!
