Summer Surf in W.A???

« on: July 16 2007 17:07:00 »

Me and a couple of mates are thinking of making to big trip across OZ and heading over to the west coast for 2 months over the summer - after christmas. Looking for a spot that's cheap to live (thinking of renting a place out) but with good surf... can anyone recomend any good spots? I've never been to W.A and have no idea where to start!

Wouldn't mind somewhere near Perth so we can hit up the cricket, and the night life.

Does W.A even get any swell in the summer months? Or should we just head to Indo instead...

Cheers

Mate theres not much in the metro area in the Perth summer.
U get the odd bit of ground swell but nothing thats consistent.
If u want decent consistent waves in summa u gotta head down south to the Margaret River area. A few places just north of Perth catch a bit of swell in summa - One of them is Derrs which is just north of Yanchep and Wedge Island which is a bit further north can be ok.
Indo could be your go, GooD LuK buddy :)

Yea accomodation should be no probs, - Backpackers, Caravan Parks, Camping Grounds etc (may pay to book in advance if its skool holidays time, which is ruffly December thru till early Feb)
As far as work goes I don't think you'll have any probs at all.
Your in for a treat surf wise mate - Injinup carpark is a nice little break - doesn't look much but is really steep.
U wanna have a decent car too as there can be a bit of driving to get to all the different spots.
Don't worry bout localism either, just stick to the old rule of give respect to get it if u know what I mean.
See ya out there!!!

disregard hostys ideallistic views on surfing the lighthouse in shark bay as it is regualary crappy. I would recommend paddling out at jakes point in Kallbarri and get a pit of your life.
