RE: Closest surf beach to melbourne

depends on where you live in melbourne....

western or northern suburbs - probably 13th beach or ocean grove
eastern or south eastern suburbs - rye/gunnamatta...

living in melbourne you are spoilt for opportunity eg- if its easterly you can go to the island etc and get plenty of waves, westerly go to the west coast...
Because of that I rarely surf an onshore wave-sweet....

RE: Closest surf beach to melbourne

I think St Kilda is the closest to the city. I love the trams in Melbourne but tried to live in the place for 3 months and couldn't really handle the place.

It may have it's alternate culture somewhere but I couldn't find it.  It wasn't really the friendliest of places.
Make the best of antwhere and you get something.

Aloha
