I went into location maps through Google search and click on beaches.
It looks like a very intersting area.
I don't think you'd be in your right mind to go to Newcastle from what i've heard about the place these days when you are in a fairly pristine area.
We don't all look for the same things though.

Thanks for any trouble you went to. We're definately staying in Port Stephens, so I'm just looking for some local knowledge as to whether I'd be better off making the 50 minute drive down to Newcastle, or just finding a local spot which I'm guessing wont be as good.
