best surf vacation spot for beginners and decent Near Sydney« on: July 16 2005 12:07:00 »
I live in North Carolina in the states and am looking at going surfing with my wife in australia, somewhat near Sydney, wanted to find a place that both she could learn to surf and I could enjoy some decent waves near by. Also looking for a place to stay for about 10 days a bit tropical but not too expensive. Also any suggestions for a place that teaches you to surf while you stay on the beach? Any info would be helpful also it is july and about 90 degrees F (burning up) here, when is the best time to visit the sydney area and enjoy some great surfing, any web sites or help would deff be appreciated, thanks-mike

Yeah ive gotta second what Rino said, but if you wanna learn to surf have a good nightlife and pretty cheap accomodation (in hostels) go to Manly beach, it is the beginning of the Northern Beaches of Sydney. There are plenty of surf schools there and once you get better you can go on a surf mision to find some sick waves further north. good luck

Firstly there's no waves up here on the Central Coast...make sure everybody knows that. The best bet is the organised surfari which runs from Sydney to Queensland. The guys that drive the mini van give you lessons and you get right off the beaten track, taking in back beaches. Its completely set up for the visiting surfer, you get to see places most dont, get the inside run on where the better spots are but dont tred on too many locals toes on the way. There are a few companies running these trips, look them up on the web or head to Manly when you get to Sydney. Also being a temperate area we have colod winters and warm summers, plan your trip around that.
