Melbourne winter surfing

Hi, coming over to Melbourne for my sisters wedding in August and was just wondering about the possibilities of getting in a bit of winter surfing in at the same time, if so, any hints on the nearest place to both suf and hire gear?

RE: Melbourne winter surfing

did some winter surfing in july. go to Torquay, nearest spot other than Ocean Grove and easy to access. Take train from Spencer St. to Geelong, and bus it from Geelong to Torquay. There is Torquay Surf beach, Jan Juc, and the famous Bell's Beach all within close distance. With a full length suit you'll be fine, and other than a few locals the waves are yours!
