water temp and a good beginner spot?

« on: June 26 2008 14:06:00 »

hey there, my boyfriend and i are taking a little road trip from sydney to cairns and back for a couple of weeks.

i am brining a bodyboard for him since he has never surfed at all.  is there a good beginner spot somewhere along the way?  not looking for big deep curls here, just a soft sand fun spot with free camping to jump in front of the whitewater.

of course it wouldn't hurt if there were some sweet reef or point break waves nearby for me :)

do i need a wetsuit?  i get cold pretty easy.  i have a 3/2 and a 4/3.

Your beat bet would probally be at Noosa.  I don't know about the free camping these days though.  There are rest areas on the Highway you can stay for 1 day .

You may check Byron but its not as warm.

I may be heading north from Byron with 2 spare seats in a Ford Econovan soon also.

Aloha
