comin to Oz from Canada

Hey guys, I am coming to Oz in mid November, and I am trying to decide where I want to go...I am a beginner surfer (surfed for a month or so in Chile and Brasil), and just want to find a great local place to live and surf for about 4 months.  I have had peeps suggest Byron, but it seems like a tourist trap.  I have looked into Noosa...whats the deal there?  If anyone has any suggestions of a great place to live and surf that would be great (and if there are jobs in the area...even better!)  Thanks dudes...

RE: comin to Oz from Canada

im in aus right now, also from canada, check out Torquay, near Geelong, near Melbourne. You get all levels of breaks there, very consistent, and bells beach is a stone throw away. if you're coming in november, it may get crowded that time of year. Also check out Batemans Bay, plenty of breaks there as well and warmer water.

Yo dude I am also from Canada, and just spent 8  months in Oz ( the best time that you will ever have!!) and  I had actually only surfed for about  a month or two before I went!!!  For me the best idea was to hit up Sydney...meet some peeps and head off from there..... sooooo many surf spots exist in this place it's ridiculous!!!! Whatever your interested in you'll find it bro....Gold coast if your flamboyant, Byon if your peaceful, sydney if your metro, and south is your pure....just hit it on your schedule and nobody else's......
P.S.>>> GAGAJU hostel in Noosa... UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

RE: comin to Oz from Canada

hey man. go straight to sydney (eastern suburbs).  surf for all levels, warm in summer and there are lots of backpacker/hostels around so you will meet people if you want to travel to other parts of australia.  Sydney also has a diverse range of stuff to do unlike byron, gold coast, brisbane...and melbourne is just too damn cold.  You shouldnt have too many problems finding work in sydney either (especially around bondi).  lots of shops, bars, cafes etc. have fun

Byron's a cool spot (kinda lost it soul these days thought) but quality waves abound - if you've got transport

I am also going to head down to Australia soon.  When are you leaving?  I am from Washington.  Are you going with anyone? maybe we should meet up and be newbies down there together. haha. I could also use some help as to where to go, and i might need some work while i'm there. if anyone can help me out with that

thanks a bunch!
