sorry to be the bearer of bad news man but you won't be suring in innisfail, or anywhere near there for that matter. A little problem for swell that far north is called the great barrier reef... the last chance north in qld is agnus waters but it picks up swell very really. the last REAL place you can surf north on the east coast is noosa (below the barrier reef) the east coast of oz is an absolute smorgasboard of waves but only below "the barrier reef"... so sorry man.
but be sure to pack your board and do a trip when you have holidays you will have everything you have ever dreamed of... stay after december till may for cyclone season if you like it BIG...
good luck and i'll see you at granits in noosa if you make it...
peace, love and happy wave hunting...

You can get boat trips to the edge of the reef.

Check out the data base on Global Surfers sites.

been up here 20 or so years surfing up here s what you make it. cyclone time gets good waves other wise south easterlies blow in winter. bingal bay has got to 2 metres but not great conditions, lumpy sometimes choppy peaks but hey you are in the water. i ride mini mal as most waves are small. couple of spots around inisfail and some north of cairns. mate even if its 2 foot chop at least i am out there keeping my drem alive
