Canadian in Brisbane

« on: October 28 2005 17:10:00 »

Hi, my name is Ben and I'll most likely be studying at UQ in Brisbane next year. I was just wondering if the surf spots closest to Brisbane are close enough to drive to ona daily basis? How long is the drive?  If its too far, i can still go to either wollongong or sydney.  Thanks for your help.

hey mate.
The closes place to surf from Brissy is the Gold Coast which is about an hours drive south (or an hour train ride followed by about a 30min bus trip).
If you study at either wollongong or sydney you will be much closer to the surf (especially if you study in Sydney at UNSW, Sydney uni, Macquarie Uni, UTS).
Have you thought about studying on the Gold Coast? Check out Griffith University or Bond (Bond is however private and therefore quite expensive).

Hi Ben,
Brisbane is about 1 hour drive from the gold coast (head south) or the sunny coast (head north). Theres also 2 islands out from Brisbane for weekend trips that get good waves.
Heaps warmer than Sydney if you can put up with the drive.
If you want to wear boardshorts & get a suntan stay in brissy & do the drive. If you want cold water & more of a city vibe head to Sydney.
