I recommend this site http://www.hostelrail.com where there are good shelters for a good price. You can find a cheap good camping close to the beach for sure! have a nice stay!

OMG - the BEST place to stay is at "Surfer's Point" owned by Zed Layton - world famous surfer and all around great guy and his Sister Melinda. They have a bunch of efficiency apartments and all of the travel advise you could ever need - including a nearby great. local lunch and were the best waves are. Just google it.
I took my son and his friend - all about the surfing - in February and had the best vacation ever. This is too low key to be five star - perfect !
