Longboard surfing spots - suggestions please

« on: December 30 2005 21:12:00 »

My wife and I are planning to go to Brazil for the first time in July 06 for about 3 weeks. I would like suggestions on good longboard surfing locations. I prefer quieter areas, sand bottom, warm water, waves 1-2 meter, friendly or non-aggro local surfers, cheap food & accommodation.

Praia da Engenhoca about 10mins outside of Itacare is a good place. Easy to paddle out and good waves. Pontal on the other side of the river is good some days too as is Prainha. The other beaches can be done but they are more short/fun though. Engenhoca is where easydrop surf school do most of their classes due to the reliable waves and for, Itacare, easy paddle out.

(warning personal plug) If you are interested in good accommodation Ihave a pousada in Itacare, www.coqueiro-verde.com
