surfing and living in brazil + spots near recife?« on: July 11 2006 19:07:00 »
I'm staying in Brazil from October-January, visiting my family, but I also plan to travel a bit and Surf a lot. Any beginner-spots close to Recife or in the northeast generally? Also looking for places to stay a few weeks and surf somewhere in Bahia and around Rio with reasonable prices, any recomendations? And btw, would be nice meeting some other people traveling or staying there in this period!

I will stay during August and November in Brazil. I am also a beginner. I only was last year 2 weeks urfing in spain. I plan to travel along the coast and make stops for surfing when I find a good spot. So maybe we could meet down there.

I spent two months just out side the town of Porto de Galinas, (Maracaipe) awsome surf, great surf shops, 1 to 1.5 hours south of Recife. Great place to learn, sandy bottom, and plenty of room during the weekdays, can be a bit crowded on the weekends but still managable. If you get tired of the surf take a few hours to snorkle and relax on the near by reef. Nice place, try the Crab at Monica's on the Beach!!
