Surfing in Durban city is great for a beginner but North and south coasts have lots of good point breaks that can really get good in June and July with a South Westerley swell running.

I was ni Pipa (South (?) of Natal) in February and it was excellent. The beach I would recommend for begginers is "Praia do Madeiro". You can take a lesson and also rent a board very easily and not expensive.
If you need anymore info just mail me.

Catch an STD and probably get mugged in the process of going to the hookers bar. Enjoy
