Beginner looking for cheap, friendly spot for a few MONTHS« on: August 12 2005 02:08:00 »
I plan to spend a few months next year in Brazil (maybe from Carnaval to World Cup?) and would like to spend my time practising at a cheap, friendly place. A cool place where I can call home for a few months, surf, chillout/party etc.

Hi Kuan, Beleza Portugese cara ! I have an apartment 3 blocks from Arpoador and Diablo beaches in Rio - the two best surf beaches in the city. It's fully equiped and has 24hr conceirge security. It is available to rent for R$45 per day. That's about USD 15 though I'm always open to negotiate a long stay. Mail me back on my hotmail and I'll send you some film clips of the apartment, extra fotos and floor plans.

Although Arpoador / Ipenema are about the best city breaks in Rio, they are massively crowded and have heavy locals. Also the summer over here doesn´t bring the best swells to this area, so there may be long flat periods. It may be best looking up north somewhere - Itacare is fantastic - really beautiful - and has quite a few spots withing walking or short drive distance. Otherwise south of rio you have Isla Do Mel or Florianopolis which may pick up better swell at that time of year. Have a look - all of them will pretty much fulfil your criteria. Happy surfing.

Dave & Lex,
Tx for yr feedback! Dave, I'll email you one of these days as my time gets closer tho having spent a little time in Rio, I'd have to agree with Lex's comments abt Rio beaches being crowded/"loca" and maybe not best for me.
I'm currently leaning towards Floripa if anyone has any further comments....
Again - tx!
