Surf in brazil with kids in may 2011, any tips?

We are a family that will travel to Brazil in May 2011 to surf for 3 weeks. We want to stay at the beach/close to the beach and it should be a place where our 2 year old son also can be able to go into the water without danger. We're looking for a relaxing surf trip where we just can jump into the water from the "pousada". Any ideas?

RE: Surf in brazil with kids in may 2011, any tips?

Hi from Madrid:

We discovered a fantastic spot in Brasil (fun travel ideas with kids) close to Sao Paulo, you might want to check it out: island Guaruj√°.

We recommend there an outstanding 5***** hotel, directly at the beach, with kids club and all comfort you might need for your family:

Casa Grande Hotel Resort & Spa
Av. Miguel Stefno
1001 Guaruj√°, Sao Paulo
Brazil
Tel: 55 13 33894000
Fax: 55 13 33894000
...............
Child Programs: Separate dining areas available for children.
Fine Dining on Site:5 restaurants and 4 bars.
Note Bene:The resort also offers a Surf School with programs for adults and children.
etc.

Kind regards

RE: Surf in brazil with kids in may 2011, any tips?

We went to Ubatuba with 4 year old and 5 month old back in june 2010.
Stayed on Praia Grande (Peixes do mar - nice place 2 mins walk to beach) which did have some surf to the north I think but not much. We did day trips to quite a few other beaches around the area including itamambuco which was good for surfing, took some lessons with Zecao surf school, nice beach with a lake next to it. There is an eco resort right next to the beach, the area is very quiet and although a bit isolated for me though. We flew to rio hired a car and drove - not too far as the crow flies but the road follows the coast and took us 5 hours or so...not great with two kids and no air con!!!
