surfing in eastern ontario

random question, does anyone know of any surf spots on the eastern shore of lake ontario? In the kingston area or is it just lack of wind direction that keeps all the breaks in the west?

I surfed at Sandbanks today, 5-6 foot faces.
it was like an 11.2 foot swell, but the waves were breaking pretty far out and we couldn't paddle that far, so we got some nice small ones.  It was sick.

If you don't want to drive all the way to Sandbanks you can also catch some nice breakers at Patterson Point with good S-SW. 10 minutes from Queen's campus.  Make sure you bring booties though.

Would Sandbanks be suitable for a beginner like myself?

Mike - though I have not yet surfed Sandbanks (both times I have gone, there were either no waves or they were much too far out to catch), I can't see why Sandbanks wouldn't be a good spot for a beginner; beach break is usually quite forgiving and I don't expect the faces at Sandbanks get that big - beginners probably need only worry about bigger waves (by my guess waves bigger than 5'), point breaks or reef breaks (where you need more control on your board to avoid what's underneath the waves(reefs) or close by (rocks/point)...

...if you have a longboard, winter wetsuit, and lots of patience, you should do just nicely...

cheers

I've been at Patterson Park(Point) on Monday. It was fun... waves of 4 to 6 fts.
