UofVic and surfing Vancouver Island« on: September 20 2005 17:09:00 »
Got accepted into UofVic. Does anyone that goes there surf anywhere on the west coast of BC or Washington? Just wondering how far it is and if anyone drives out together? I've heard it can get pretty epic and i've got winter gear and a few boards. Any info would be great.

Check out Tofino (Vancouver Island).

Hey! Most consistent is Tofino and area, winter storms are moving in, timing is good, can be really munchie, it's not Costa Rica! Bring a good wetsuit! Very cool though and if you can brave it then you can say that you have surfed in Canada. Min 5 hr trip from Victoria, go with Tofino Bus, not the Greyhound (it takes forever). If you can't make it to Tofino then you can try the area West of Victoria from Sooke to Port Renfrew, of which Sombrio Beach is known for throwing some knarly shit! However, I have not surfed there yet and cannot offer break description. I do know that it is inconsistent and snaps on a good Canadian rock shelf! It has been recorded throwing 20ft and if you get lucky it will be chucking 8.
