Any surf around vina del mar?

« on: October 26 2004 01:10:00 »

I am considering going to school there and want to know if its worth it. I am going mostly for the surf, and it'd be from september to december.

Look, the only good spot around Vina is Renaca and its not that good. If you are going for the surf, just head down to Pichilemu. It is not a big city like Vina, but the surf is way better. (As a city, Vina is much better than Pichilemu)

I live in Reñaca right now.  Its about 10min north of Viña and the only place close where people surf.  There are lots of people surfing every day.  But I am told that the break is difficult and not that great.  Also the surfers in Reñaca dislike beginners getting in thier way.  I work in Viña, otherwise I would not recommend living there.  Its plastic as hell, unless you love BK and MacDonalds.  South about 15min is Valpariso, which has nightlife, culture, arcitecture, other good things, is cheaper, more fun, but is dirty and more dangerous.

im gonna go to vina for studying there too but my purpose is to surf as much as possible. i have the world storm rider guide and it says there are some spots around that are good to surf and very consistent although they are hard to access.
im also gonna be there from august till december of this year.hopefully the surf will be good!

I'm Chilean so I know pretty well where to surf and the closest place to Viña is Reñaca, which is not that great, you should head either to Pichilemu - which, if I'm not mistaken, should be about 2 hrs bus ride from Viña - and contact Elvis, he owns a surf shop or go to Maitencillo, it also has pretty ok surf, and since you are a guy, it has nice looking girls in summer.
