Any tips?« on: October 09 2006 08:10:00 »
i'm off to Chile for 6 weeks in December 2006 and plan to spend a large proportion of my time surfing (mainly from Santiago up the coast to Arica). it's my first surfing trip solo and my first time to S. America.
any tips for a lonesome traveller? places to stay etc. i was gonna hire a board there so any recommendations gratefully received? was gonna take a summer suit only or is it worth taking a winter suit too?

Before heading northyou nshould check out the wave at Picnilemu. Pichilemu is 3 hours by bus from Santiago. Last bus leaves at 8.15 pm so no nee3d to stay in Santiago. Airport bus wil take you to the terminal.
Picnilemu has three suref breaks La Puntilla, Infernillo and Punta Lobos. If you stay at Los dos soles you can see the first to breaks from the hostel.
after your finished with Picnilemu you can head north to Iquique.
In Pichilemu water is cold, you will need a really good 2,3 or better still a 4.3

There's lots of waves on the coast near Santiago a couple hours away. Good spots around Pichilemu, Valpariaso, and Vina del Mar. There's a really good surf spot guide available at "surfguidechile" dot com. I used it last year.
