chile in August?« on: April 22 2010 15:04:00 »
Hola. dos preguntas .Hopefully I will be travelling in Chile for the month of August. Many websites have conflicting information about the weather and waves around this time!! Could someone please let me know roughly what the story is around this time? Also should I head south, central or the north for waves around this time?

I surf in the southern hemisphere all the time, in August expect strong winds (mostly onshore), big waves, and very cold water. I would go North if I were you, I suspect the further south you are at this time of year the more likely onshores will be blowing.

Hey. I am from Chile. During August, swells start growing up, so expect 2-3 metres waves on the whole coast. Also, you should know that water and air temperature decreases DRASTICALLY. If you dont like cold weather, then head the north (Arica, Iquique, down to Huasco). If you dont care, then you should definitely head the Central-South area. Ask for Puertecillo, it's the perfect time of the year for the wave, and Curanipe (you will find tons of different breaks in the area). Good luck
