Easy access and cheap surf place in Columbia« on: June 21 2005 09:06:00 »
Im going to Columbia for 2 weeks at the end of July, will first fly to Medellin and stay there for a few days. Then I want to go surfing to some nice place. I will be with a columbian girlfriend, and she already checked a few places, like Nuqui, but it seems to be quite expensive ($500 for one week there in an hotel+airfare+food), and I don't know if I will be able to rent a board there. We could also go to Santa Marta, I guess we can go there by bus if it is not too dangerous. She found a very good deal for San Andres island, but I don't know if you can surf there.
So, does anyone have advices for me, good places where to surf (Im still beginner to intermediate level), and places where I can rent a board.
Thanks in advance

Surfing in colombia
There is a difference in surfing any coast of colombia, the atlantic coast has different spots and there are different cities throughout the coast such as Cartagena, Barranquilla, santa marta, the surf spots are far from the cities but you can get there by car or bus. Most of the beaches have a lot of tourists around. the pacific coast is very different because it is covered with rainforest and it is far away from any city, you can only fly in and out, it is more exotic, it is a bit more expensive but it is really something different, in both coasts you may be able to rent a board, depending on your skills and budget.

I travel to medellin at least once every twom months, i live in south florida, and my wife is colombian, im also 1/2 colombian. One word of advice is dont go by bus from medellin to santa marta, beacuse you are taking a big risk. I want to go to nuqui, but i hear santa marta is good in the winter.
