Who wrote this synopsis on Colombia and when? Obviously you have never been here, let alone spelling the name wrong! It is COLOMBIA no "U" in it. There is not a high likelihood of violence or kidnappings where expats and visitors stay. This is not Colombia of the past, it is safer here then in many USA cities.
Are there dangerous spots? Sure are but stay out of them. Don't go looking to cop dope and you will have no problems!

Check the statistics from last year which country has highest kidnap and murder rate:
Colombia, columbia, culumbia, cumbulia
I don't care how it's spelled, i think the folks here are right, it's a dangerous country
