Has NW Costa Rica become too overcrowded?

« on: December 27 2005 19:12:00 »

Last time I was in Tamarindo was 15 years ago, and it seemed too crowded at the time, especially in the summer, with Brazilians and Texans and everyone else in the water. We're thinking about tripping there in May but concerned about too many surf camps etc in the area. Has anyone been there April/May recently with relevant experience? Is it better to try Nicaragua?
