Is it okay to take surfboards on the bus? Does anybody know if there is a size limit? Is it easy t o get from San Jose to Tamarindo by bus? where is a good place to stay in Tamarindo?? I'm trying to do things super cheap ie hostels. I'll take all the advice that I can get. I leave on 11/13.

yeah that's ok. It might be a little difficult sometimes. But most of the time you can put it in the back of the bus. in the neighbour countries die put your board on top of the bus but in costarica you got your board inside so you can keep een eye on it. Not that there's mucht theft at all. HAve fun inCR man

It takes about 5 hours by bus from San Jose to Tamarindo.
Or fly with Sansa ,right next to the International Airport you'll
find the domestic airport,takes about 45 min,costs about 75US.Good view........enjoy costa rica.....pura vida!

The "Coca Cola" buses are cheap, but they are a tough ride. We found a travel charter bus that took us from our hotel in Playa Hermosa/Jaco to Tamarindo in 5 hrs (in A/C) for $35 a piece. A cheaper bet than Sansa, with less hassle.
If you are in need of info, go buy "Surfer's Guide to Costa Rica" probably the most valuable investment to any trip to CR. It has outlines for the cities, the surf spots, hotels and rates -- you name it! GO BUY IT!
