RE: good to take a young family to CR

Hi!  I am a mom of older kids who traveled extensively with mine when they were young.  The answer dependes somewhat on when you are planning to travel.  rainy or not.  guanacaste is best in the rainy season, central pacific best in dry.  For good adult surfing and good kid beach, I would recommend Tamarindo.  Can surf off and play on the beach.  Drive/ walk to many other breaks. Low life is not as obvious as in Jaco.  Jaco is definitely not a kid oriented town.  Other places are more off of the beaten track and may be challenging to get to with little kids, and not have services/medical.   Manuel Antonio/ Quepos has a good play beach and a nat'l park, but not good surf.  Or you could stay in Playa Grande,  is a 30 minute dusty or muddy, potholey drive to stores, town.
