The best place to rent a board in CR is at Jaco Beach. There are quite a few surf shops and thus a good selection of boards to choose from. Just be careful not to damage the board because then you'll end up paying a lot more $$$. In that case you might as well have bought a decent used board. People are always willing to bargain. That would probably be a better option for someone who wants to travel along the coast. You never know when you'll find a spot and wish you were paddling out. Buy a used board for $200, sell it back for $100 when you leave. Having your own board will give you peace of mind.

why rent a board? better buy a cheap one, you will allways find one. And you can sell it the day you leave because it's cheaper than renting one. This is how the boards circulate through the travelers there :)
