Jaco Beach surfing and hotel« on: March 05 2007 21:03:00 »
we're from Florida in the US. We are thinking of going to Jaco Beach and staying at Tangeri Hotel (Hotel Tangeri). After reading some reviews and comments here, we're a little worried. Of course, the hotel's web site says how great it is in Jaco and how great the surf is. We're intermediate. Can I get some feedback on Jaco Beach's surf? Also what is the culture like here? Is it really full of thieves and prostitutes? Anyone here of Hotel Tangeri? What does it look like? I can only tell by the web site, and of course, every thing can look better on the web than it really is.

It's true, Jaco can be rough. Lots of drugs, lots of pickpockets, lots of prostitutes at night in the bars. Surf was so-so, longboard at the far south end, otherwise don't bother. Go to Hermosa or Esterillos Oeste, better surf, better vibe, chillin'. Or go to MalPais/St. Theresa. Stay at The Place Hotel, book through Vacation City for no extra cost. Sweet hotel, kickin' pool, 3 minute walk to surf. Way better surf than any Central Pacific locale. And there is ALWAYS something to surf there, ALWAYS. In Jaco you have 1-1.5 hrs on either side of high tide. That's it.
