I went August 2004 then back in October 2004. I recommend northern part of country- top peninsula -withches rock (playa naranja) the best 4-wheel can leave you stranded going through the national park so grab the boat from near water Tamarindo-many palces to stay. Good base. Then head south to the tip at Mal Pais. Prepare for water water every where... Get the best 4 wheel you can rent cruising is cool but take care they use radar- gently bribe your way out.. It so cool.. I'd be ahppy to tell you more.
