Board Rental near Puerto Jimenez or Pavones?« on: February 12 2008 09:02:00 »
My brother and I are flying from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez to surf the Matapalo area, as well as a trip over to Pavones. We really don't want to hassle with bringing boards if we can avoid it.
Is there a place to rent boards in Puerto Jimenez? A friend of mine has property just south of Puerto Jimenez which will be our base camp. He does not surf and is not familiar with a rental shop.
Any ideas? How about Pavones or even Golfito as a last resort?

The only place in Matapalo to rent a board is at Encanta La Vida a nice little hotel there. They have maybe 15 boards in various shapes and sizes and in various states of disrepair. The boards are mostly for the people staying there, so you'll get the boards that are left over to chose from. $10-15/day. I've been there 4 times and rented a long board there the 1st time. I've been driving from San Jose since. so I could bring my own boards. I don't know about Pavones board situation.

As of March of this year there was a surfboard shop in Pto. Jimenez that has surfboards for rent. I met a couple of guys that got boards there. They start at $20/day, but will take less. There also is/was a nice little board shop up the coast in Uvita. Easy access from the main highway if you happen to be driving down the coast to Pavones or Matapalo. I got boards there in 2012 for less than $10/day.
