Travel time from Airport to beaches

« on: April 29 2008 10:04:00 »

My buddy and I are going to Central America for 5 days in August. I am trying to decide between Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala.

Because the trip is a quick one, we don't want to waste a lot of time in the car. I've been to El Salvador, and I know the travel time to the beach hotels is only about an hour and a half (if I remember correctly).

How long does it take to get from San Jose Airport to the beach hotels? Guatemala City to the beach areas? Thanks for the feedback.

Seriously? No one knows how long it takes, by car, to get from the Airport in San Jose to the good surf spots?

I'm going down there in October. It looks like it's about 4 hours from the airport to Tamarind in a car. I'm just guessing though.

hey mate, i just arrived back into australia on the 3rd of may from a surfing trip to costa rica, best holiday ever.. san jose to jaco, in a car is minimum 2.5hrs but more likely 3-3.5hrs as the road is all twists and turns, the traffic can be chaotic and you're coming into the rainy season, so be extra careful if you drive - won't need a 4wd to jaco or hermosa but bring your pelotas to hermosa.. if you have time fly to tamarindo and surf playa negra my fav, avenallas and witches rock 3 best surf spots in CR.. cheers mate.

In Costa Rica, you can get the bus for $10 from the coca cola terminal all the way to Mal Pais in 6 hours (that includes price of ferry also). Air con, etc...no troubles. I have taken that bus 4 times! Mal Pais is full of surf spots, some hotels, hostels and surf camps. Its a lovely place. The bus then returns and takes you directly to the airport.
