June 24-25 - in Punta Arenas - Can I get to the surf?

I'm going to be arriving in Punta Arenas on June 24 this year, and leaving the next evening.

I'm not entirely sure what time I will be arriving as I am travelling around the world on a boat.

I'd love to go surfing if possible. I see there are a couple of surf spots near Punta Arenas. So, a few questions:

What's the best way to get around?
Would it be best to pre-arrange everything with a surf company?
Are booties essential?
What's the right board to bring, or would it be best to rent one for the day?
Which is the most reliable break near Punta Arenas in June?

That's about all for now! Many thanks,
Rob

Yes, you have surf nearby.  Just grab a taxi to Boca Barranca.  It's the second longest left in Costa Rica!  It's a fun, friendly wave....just make sure to be courteous to the locals.  The water's not so clean but you'll forget all about that once you catch a wave or two.  Just make sure to use some eardrops afterwards.  Some people use booties as there are rocks when you enter/exit....but aren't absolutely necessary.

Another spot nearby is Coralillo/El Joyo....which you access via Puerto Caldera.

Thanks for the info Todd. Any cool bars or other places to check out while I'm there?
