Trip in February

Hi...we are bringing the family for vacation in Feb. 2006.  We are in our 40's...have a 17-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.  My husband and son surf.  Son not too experienced with big waves (nothing over 5-6 ft) or rocky bottom.  We plan to fly into Liberia and drive to Tamarindo...is this the right time of year for the northern pacific for waves?  Are the waves intermediate or advanced?  And what is the drive like from airport to Tamarindo?

Thanks,
Mary

RE: Trip in February

I live just outside of Tamarindo and can tell you that Feb. is not the best month for surf.  Probably May, June, or July is better.  Tamarindo can be flat then due to the hard offshores.  You can usually find surf, and a crowd, at Grande though...only 15 minutes away.  The road from the airport is full of craters , so go slow and watch out!

RE: Trip in February

hey, mary,

lou's right on, but while the waves are hit or miss in Feb, there's always a little something at Grande or Tam that'll be fine for a newbie, and plenty of sand. More shots just south, too. Stayed there for a couple of weeks in Mar, and it was fun, though much better waves south. You'll have fun, and the roads are only bad near Tam, the drive down's OK.

RE: Trip in February

I was there last march and september. Both were great. no rain in march. but the rain there doesn't spoil a thing.
