How rainy is Oct/Nov in Costa Rica & where to go

We've just started surfing & are planning a trip in the end of October/early November. We originally wanted to go to Costa Rica but are concerned about the rainy season mentioned on this site. How much rain/day can we expect?

Also we'd like to know a less touristy, chill (but still safe) surf area for beginners, if the rainy season shouldn't turn us away.
