How safe is Costa Rica?« on: July 22 2009 09:07:00 »
I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica in January so I have been doing some research on the area. From what I have read so far it seems like you can't take your eyes off your belongings, leave anything on the beach while in the water or leave anything in your vehical or you'll get robbed for sure. Is all this true?

I was recently there and yes keep your stuff with you, or else it will most likely be stolen but the ticos themselves are really chill surfers and arent like most local surfers they dont care about much just dont be a kook.

Bueno As I call Costa Rica home. I must say, dude be careful our petty theft has not gotten any better in the past 17 years that I have lived here. Some areas are worse than others of course but,in beach areas never drop your gaurd. I have been told that about the same type of petty theft happens in other areas in the world also! Here In Manuel Antonio It is a little safer as we have police that patrol our beachs, but they cannot be in all spots at all times.
Right in front of my beach house someone gets hit at least once a week.So be creaful surf is really good though especially right NOW!

I was in CR in January, and in my opinion its a safe country, just have to be carefull like in every place, but there are some locations dangerous than others.
I was in Playa Cocles in caribbean side, at Playa Hermosa near Jaco ( Jaco semms a little dangerous ), Manuel Antonio, safe but many securitys around there and i see one robbery at night, and in Casa Azul in Santa Teresa - Malpais, the best place for sure.
If any day you want to visit and surf in Portugal, e-mail me for some tips.
