Pacific coast: Jaco.. Chuck (American) owns a surf shop with decent boards.  (Bring money for his import markup)  Kangaroo hotel at south end of Jaco good place to stay for surfers.  Staff smokes weed and surfs.  :)  Kangaroo is almost as cheap as Chuck's salvation army shelter but you get your own room instead of a room full of bunk beds.

Tamarindo - expensive stay.  Too many gringo and W. European hostels that charge pretty well.  Localism in the water.  One break, everybody crowded around it.  Does get the offshore winds that comes down from the mountain range in Nicaragua.  Nosara (remote) and expenive.  More gringo guesthouses.  Need a car to get there.  Car rentals expensive in CR.  Gas is expensive too!

Hows it going, if your heading towards the pacific coast, i got something for you, head up towards puerto La Libertad,in the country of El Salvador, its the only country in the region that uses the dollar and the people port side are very nice. I own a property between Conchallio and the famous Punta Roca, some good breaks out here man. you can contact me via e-mail if you are interested. Buen Viaje.

Tamarindo, Costa Rica is a among one of the most popular vacation destinations in Costa Rica. It's located on the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. With it's pristine beaches, crystal blue ocean waters and stunning natural landscape it's no wonder that it's one of Central America's most highly sought after destinations by surfers and sun worshippers alike. The area in front of the surf camp has gentler waves which are perfect for beginner/intermediate surfers

Central Pacific Coast is the place to go.  Jaco is the party town; and Hermosa, 5 minutes south are where the waves are at.  It don't get no better than that in Costa Rica.  Plus, you can easily access any of the breaks according to what the swell is doing.  For how the waves are:  check;;; www.surfingcostarica,net; all have good updates for last minute take-offs to surrounding surf.  For boards:  Jaco has plenty of shops to choose from.....easy to find what you need.
