Surf in CR in July, without car« on: April 01 2011 16:04:00 »
Im planning to go surf in Costa Rica in July and I have some questions.
We would be two to leave and are both beginner (have tried 5 and 20 times...). I was wondering if its easy to make a surf trip if we dont deal with a surf camp and that we dont rent a car (we want a cheap trip... student here :P)
After looking on internet, I think that the best place to be at this time of the year is in the Central/South Pacific so I was thinking to go in Jaco.
Also, I would like to move around a bit and visit a little bit so if you have other tips like what I should really not miss tell me!

I just got back from surfing for 2 weeks in CR and planning to go back in July. Kinda tough time to go because it is their rainy season but if you go to the right place you can catch their mini-summer. I would recommend somewhere in Guanacaste peninsula (best surfing for beginners, clean, and drier climate). Hit me back with your email and let me know where you are traveling from. Maybe we can hook up to split costs or whatever. I know some cheap places to stay and great waves to learn on.

Live at the Kangaroo Hotel in south end of Jaco. Good surf 100 feet away. Eat at Jaco Bell for lunch, pizza (next to the kangaroo) for dinner. Buy your boards from Chuck (walk on water surf shop) but don't stay at his overprice barracks with a thousand bunkbeds in one room.

Move around a bit? then u are going to need a car. Get ready to be reamed. Anywhere on the nicoya pinnusula is expensive too. Lots of localism in Tamarindo.. everybody crowded around one tight point break.

It seems yo will need a car for your trip, it will help you to move around a little. As you are stick on a budget, I know a company that has low rates that are all inclusive, my brother went there last november and got a great deal. Here is the info just in case you want to do a little research on car rentals www.renta4x4incostarica.com.
