Kevin, you are not dreaming- you can find what you are looking for in Costa Rica, even at places some say it's not possible. For a mellow, uncrowded wave, if you don't mind walking 10 minutes, you can very easily find a peak to yourself in Playa Grande. Most of what people describe as the 'crowd' in PG like to be in front of the camera, or each other, fueling the competitiveness and localism that is prevalent at the main peak. For more useful information, feel free to contact Frijoles Locos- they will give you advice on how to avoid the crowds, as well as provide quality surfboard rentals at a great rate. Happy planning!

I was surfing for one week and got uncrowded waves in Tamarindo area the key is to know where and when, ask Costa Rica Surf Club for info they are friendly and ready to help you out!
