Wave size in Dominican Republic

My wife booked a trip to the Dominican Republic's north coast, we are going in July, is it worth brining my shortboard? Are there any kind of waves that time of the year? Board rentals?
Thanks

RE: Wave size in Dominican Republic

In July and August expect the waves on the north coast of the Dominican Republic to be between waist and chest high, unless there's a hurricane well north of the island than you expect some very big surf.

Get up early for the surfing at Encuentro, since the tradewinds pick up at around midday.
Have fun

Was there last year, there's a few places to rent boards, more beginner / longboards than high performance boards though.
Great vibes and friendly locals.
Enjoy
