staying at a resort near oceanworld...what's the nearest break? tea time? coffee break? la puntilla? are there any good maps to get to know how to reach the breaks?

Near there are some good breaks along the Malecon in Puerto Plata. If you go into town just follow the road along the Ocean to the statue of General Luperon and the Fort. Climb over the wall and paddle out. Long lefts and some rights too. There are a few other places along the road that people surf. There is a break right on the beach near Ocean World: there is an outside reef so it is really a reform but on a big, longer period swell especially North, Northwest waves can get in there.

Encuentro close to Cabarete is about 20 minutes away and is a descent surf spot. not the best time of the year but it is consistent there, even though it might be small.

I am planning to go to Cabarete mid august for a first time surfing camp. Is Cabarete in August ok vs wave quality for a beginner? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
