Waves July-August« on: May 25 2008 00:05:00 »
We want to visit the dominican republic for a surftrip in July-August. We are beginner-intermediate surfers, used to surfing on 4-6 foot waves. I am aware that the surf is the smallest this time of year in the DR.
Are there any spots that actually get around 4 ft in July-August or can we totally forget about it?

Define 4 foot!
from the back or front?
4 foot as in Hawaiian meaning 1,5 overhead.
4 foot anywere else as in head high
or 4 foot as in shoulder high.
Not trying to give you a hard time.
July August sees a regular amount of shoulder high days in the DR, but 1,5 overhead days are not happening 99% of the time.

My experience is that the whole year around beginners and intermediate surfers have a great time at Encuentro. We receive lot's of beginners in our accommodation and for them it's definitely big enough. In the summer is actually a good time to learn or to improve for intermediates.
For sure you will have a good time surfing...

Once again I recomend a private tour...You don't have to drive, they know the spots and where it will be breaking to suit you needs...I got photos and movies and a local feel instead of the "all inclusive" isolation. Where we went the breaks were empty...no attitude but pure STOKE!
