Surf spots in the South?« on: September 27 2005 03:09:00 »
Hi myself, non surfer, and my boyfriend, surfer, would like to head to the DR in mid-November. As the monsoon season will be hitting the north of the Island at this time, are there are surf spots in the south or east of the Island, near to any AI hotels, where the weather will be sunnier? Please help!?

Hi , I lived in Dom Rep for more than 35 years and surfed a lot there for 20 years.
There are some good spot in the south:
Boya, at the west side of the Boca Chica bay, west of the Club Nautico. When there is swell, is the best spot. Boca Chica is 45 minutes from Santo Domingo and 10 minutes from the International Airport.
Pato beach, Najayo. 45 minutes west of Santo Domingo.
This is a great spot with almost perfect left waves. In good swell you get tired of riding the same wave! At the end you have to walk back to the breaking point.

Thanks very much for your helpful reply, much appreciated! Are these surfing areas near to any all inclusive hotels at all?

Thanks again for your helpful comments. We are now staying in Sosua - do you know of any good beach breaks in that area?
