Is there surf at Maimon bay?« on: May 05 2010 04:05:00 »
Looking to head to the north coast of the Dominican Republic in September and staying at the Riu Bachata at Maimon Bay.
Can you surf at Maimon Bay & if so what's it like?
If not, what's the closest?
It mentions in some places that you can get surf boards from the hotel however it would be great if this can be clarified.

The closest surf spot is in Puerto Plata (15 minutes away) but that's not really a good surf break I'm afraid as it is very shallow. You are best off heading to Encuentro and going to Marcus for instance, at 321 TakeOff or Bobo's Surf's Up school. Encuentro will take you about half an hour by taxi from where you are staying.
