Ecuador in September/October

« on: June 05 2007 18:06:00 »

What is the surf and weather like in Montanitas in September and October?  How hard is it to get a board?  Any good reccomendations on a place to stay or possibly work/trade ... I'm a bartender ...  I like two foot (hawaiian) V-land on north shore ... not comfortable with much bigger surf....

Melissa, last Sept./Oct. of 2006 I visited Ecuador and surfed in Montanita, San Mateo, Manta and Salinas. If you go to Montanita, visit the Balsa House Surf Spot and ask for Rasty (Ceasar) he is the owner, balsa longboard shaper, champion surfer.... and a fabulous guy. He would lend you a board and show you around,  just tell him Mykal sent you. By the way I too am going back in Oct. but am going to Salinas. Salinas is the shit !!!!!  Epic for longboarders as I am, check out my pic's on this site in Guayas Shit Bay. Reply back.

I bought a surfboard and took a tour surfing the whole coast of Ecuador with Sweet Surf in the center of Montanita. The owner knows everything about the waves in Ecuador and have good boards for rent and for sale. And the owners wife is working in the shop as well and she speaks English! Good for us not yet Spanish speaking people!

Sebastian, we took a tour (just three days) with Sweet surf and surfed the best uncrowded waves! David and Maya are the sweetest and most helpful people and the tour was alot cheaper than the other tour companies we asked. www.sweetsurfecuador.com, or something like that you can find more information.

Rasty is a legend. He will make you your own balsa board within a week or so.

Hi everybody, Sweet surf in Montanita took my money for classes (11 days) after it, instructors never appeared (once or twice), it was a long and terrible story, but finally, Maya (owner of Sweet Surf) told me they will return me a money, it was in August, now is December and i still did not get my money back. Be smart, pay day by day.
