Manta - Does it have surf and a vibe??« on: May 31 2009 17:05:00 »
I have heard very mixed views on Manta. I am planning on going to Manta to learn Spanish for at least 6 months... September to April...
Is it true you can live for $15 per day??
Is there good surf? Will i need a car to get there?? Will that double my budget etc..??
Also, what is Manta like itself, but sceptical that it might be full of weterners due to the military base??
Thanks any help you have would be great???

no, its not a town for surfer vibes. nice beach and boardwalk, but not a big party. its a business/industrial port. go to montanita, 4 hours south. and ya 15-20 a day. no car needed, plenty of buses. contact manuel at Surpacifico escuela de espanol for lodging and lessons for both manta and montanita. check out Olon or manglaralto near montanita if you want more tranquility. enjoy
